Coach's comments:
With eight new players and two new coaches coming to the 1999-2000 Varsity team, this season brings a new era to Elk Grove Women's Basketball. Linking eras are two players who have been varsity members since they were freshmen. Amanda Fitzgerald and Erin Wathen both joined the varsity team in 1996 and helped guide the Lady Herd back to the playoffs. As sophomores, they were on the best team in school history that finished 26-5, a section semi-finalist and ranked #5 in the area by "The Sacramento Bee." Last season, the team was gutted by graduation and missed the playoffs. Now, for the final campaign of the century, the team is looking for Fitzgerald and Wathen to lead the Lady Herd back to the playoffs once again. This season's squad features six players 5'11 or taller and improved depth at the guard spots. The team will turn to tri-captain and senior Lynsey Harp, junior Kari Busath, and sophomore Melissa Painter to be the consistent outside threat left vacant by the Lady Herd's all-time career scoring leader, Sabrina Briggs, now playing at CSU, San Bernadino. Muscling inside for the Lady Herd are seniors Krista Jensen and Kim Parker, and juniors Lindsay Cathcart, Christina Ross, Maren Winterrowd. Adding to the back-court are senior Lindsay Justice and juniors Corey Cox, Stefanie Ures, and Jenny Fong. With a balance of height and perimeter shooting and added depth and experience, this year's Lady Herd team looks to reverse last year's misfortunes and get the new era started in the right direction.
