VARSITY TEAM PREVIEW
The 2004-2005 Elk Grove Lady Herd Varsity team is a wonderful blend of veterans and newcomers. Returning are senior cornerstones Jennifer Enos and Rebekah Focht. These two led the team in nearly every statistical category the last two seasons and now lead a solid team toward league and section championships. Over two-thirds of last season's scoring and rebounding return for the 04-05 season. Enos and Focht will be the focus of opposing team's defense but this version of the Lady Herd will attack from multiple positions. Junior Shanice Brown returns for her third season on the varsity team, fresh off a summer of intense conditioning and footwork training. Another junior returnee is Jenna Alexander, a powerful defender and rebounder. Working inside with Brown and Alexander are juniors Meghan McDermott and Jessica Hawkins. On the perimeter, depth is no problem for the Lady Herd. Senior Ashley Gaskin returns after a year off, energized to defend and score with intensity. Senior guards Meagan Schreiner and Krystina Johnson also return to help lead the team. Freshman Kara Boyles will join the varsity team, ready with refined shooting ability and defensive fortitude. Juniors Betzy Ortiz, Monique Ybarra, Chioma Onukwugha, and Codi Zgraggen add depth and experience to a smart, dedicated basketball team.
